NORMAN

Splash pad hours reduced

Hours for the city's two splash pads have been reduced to conserve water, city officials said. Splash pads at Andrews Park and Colonial Estates Park will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 8 p.m. but will close for two hours in the afternoon until further notice.

Reserve academy set

The Cleveland County Sheriff's Department is accepting applications for its upcoming reserve academy. The academy will begin Sept. 27 and conclude Feb. 19. Classes will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

Applicants must be at least 21 and able to do law enforcement work in the field. To register, call Lt. Eric Hanson at 701-8888 or email ehanson@ccso-ok.us.

4-H member honored

Cleveland County 4-H member Emily Morrow has been named a 4-H Hall of Fame winner. Only two 4-H members from the state are awarded the honor each year. Morrow was honored for her leadership, citizenship and public speaking, as well as for projects in fabrics and fashion. She was recognized at a recent statewide conference.

Norman Conquest recognized

The Norman Conquest, a bicycle tour that benefits the J.D. McCarty Center for children with developmental disabilities, has been named to Bicycling magazine's “The 50 Best Rides in America” list. The Bicycle League of Norman has sponsored the event for the past 17 years.
