Norman art walk will feature dedication of new sculptures

“Silver Lining,” by Jonathan Hils, and “Sun Dial,” by Craig Swan, have been installed in the 200 and 300 blocks of W Main.

Mayor Cindy Rosenthal and Norman Public Arts Board Chairman Larry Walker will speak briefly about the importance of public art in a dedication ceremony set for 6 p.m. at MAINSITE Contemporary Art, 122 E Main. Hils and Swan will be on hand to answer questions about their creative choices for the permanent installations.

“Silver Lining” is a silver cloud formation shaped by a manipulation of Norman's downtown streets and laid out as a weather vane. “Sun Dial” is a steel piece, brick red with a chemical patina, which features cutouts of scissor-tailed flycatchers that cast shadows on the surrounding sidewalk.

Other art walk activities include an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Santa Fe Depot, 200 S Jones Ave., for the Small Works Show, an exhibit featuring a variety of artists that will run through Dec. 28.

The exhibit showcases paintings by Bert Seabourne, Gay Faulkenberry, Linda Tuma Robertson, Don Holladay, Brad Price, Jim Cobb and Sue Messerly, and the Romanian reversed glass iconography of Christopher Cunningham and Rodica Focseneanu Cunningham.
