NORMAN — School board members at the Norman Public Schools have approved more than $18,000 in tort claims for families who lost personal items during a school bus fire last fall.
Monday's approval is the first step for families to get money back for their personal property that was destroyed in the fire. The school bus was en route to a band competition at Cameron University last October when it caught fire and caused about $250,000 in damage.
No one was injured, but the fire caused significant damage to band instruments and other property. A local newspaper reports that 21 students lost personal property in the blaze.
The school board approved all of the claims that were submitted in connection with the bus fire.
