Award nominations solicited

The city of Norman is accepting nominations for its annual Human Rights Award, presented to an individual or organization that has shown outstanding effort, achievement and/or leadership in the promotion of human rights and equality. Nominations, due Nov. 19, can be mailed to the Norman Human Rights Commission, P.O. Box 370, Norman, OK 73070 or emailed to carol.coles@normanok.gov. Finance department honored

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award to the city for its 2013 budget. The award specifically recognizes finance director Anthony Francisco and budget manager Suzanne Krohmer. This is the 22nd consecutive year the city has been recognized by the association with its highest honor.

Street sweeping area defined

City crews will begin street sweeping operations Monday in an area bounded by 24th Avenue SE, Alameda Street, 12th Avenue SE and Lindsey Street. Residents are asked to remove parked cars from streets within the boundary area between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. through Friday. For more information, call 329-2524.
