Church to bless backpacks as school nears
NORMAN — University Lutheran Church and Student Center, 914 Elm Ave., Sunday will include a blessing of backpacks for students and educators who are beginning a new school year. The blessings will be part of the 8:30 and 11 a.m. services.

Wildwood Church begins group for young adults
Wildwood Community Church, 1501 24th Ave. NE, will start a fellowship group Sunday for married or single people in their 20s and 30s. The group, called Connections, will meet at 9 a.m.
Youth WAV will go to Turner Falls for the day Monday for an end-of-summer outing. The various youth groups in WAV will resume their normal meeting schedules this week, beginning with middle schoolers at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesdays. The older groups meet at 7:45 p.m. Wednesdays.
College students are invited to a free lunch in the fellowship center after the 10:40 a.m. service Sunday. Plans for the fall semester will be discussed, with sign-ups available for small group meetings.
College credit is available in class on Apostle Paul
The Union Baptist Association will offer a three-hour college credit class this fall at Northeast Baptist Church, 905 E Rock Creek Road. The class will meet from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays. Enrollment and first day of class is Monday.
The class, "The Life and Literature of the Apostle Paul,” will be taught by the Rev. Ed Sasnett, pastor of Northeast Baptist Church. Sasnett has an undergraduate degree in divinity from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, a master's degree in divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas, and a doctorate in ministry from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo.
The class is being offered as part of OBU's Ministry Training Institute. For students who want college credit, cost is $250 plus cost of the book. The class can be audited for $100 plus the cost of the book. For more information, call Preston Collins, associate executive director, Union Baptist Association, at 321-0864.
