— As a Christmas gift to the community, members of Bethel Baptist Church, 1717 W Lindsey St., will present “The Gospel According to Scrooge,” a Broadway-style musical set in Victorian England.

Free performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with matinee performances at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The production, with a cast of more than 100, is a retelling of the classic Charles Dickens' novel “A Christmas Carol.” In this version, care has been taken to keep the heart of the story intact; it was originally created and produced in Minneapolis in the early 1980s.

The Bethel production is under the direction of associate pastor Mark Powell, who has played Scrooge in presentations in the Tulsa area. The cast is made up of members of Bethel's Music and Christian Arts Department.
