Norman city councilman-elect disapproves of negative campaign flier
Chad Williams, who won the Ward 8 Norman City Council seat in a runoff Tuesday, says negative campaigning was not of his doing.
NORMAN — City Councilman-elect Chad Williams said a bit of negative campaigning in his Ward 8 district was not instigated by him.
Williams, who won the Ward 8 seat in a runoff election Tuesday, said he tried to “keep to the issues” and run a clean campaign against opponent Jackie Farley.
An anonymous flier distributed in Ward 8 charged Farley with having a “pro-gay” agenda.
Farley said she thinks she was a victim of an unfair attack.
“I hated being smeared. That's unnecessary, and it's not right. I campaigned on the issues and never veered off that path,” Farley said.
Williams said the flier stated only that it was paid for “by people for ethical treatment for taxpayers.”
“I don't know who they are,” Farley said. “They claimed, in a way, to be supporters of mine, but they weren't. They were supporters of their own agenda. I found it to be distasteful. In fact, I was disgusted by it.”
