NORMAN — The Norman North High School Philharmonic and Symphonic orchestras will perform Monday. Both orchestras earned superior ratings at the state orchestra contest in February.
The Norman North High School Band will perform Tuesday, with a special presentation planned at that concert by a contingent of Oklahoma legislators, including Rep. Emily Virgin, D-Norman, and Sen. Rob Standridge, R-Norman.
Both concerts are at 8:15 p.m. in the Nancy O'Brian Performing Arts Center, 1809 Stubbeman Ave.
Legislators will present a citation of congratulations to the Norman North marching band, which has been invited to represent Oklahoma in the 2013 Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Hawaii on Dec. 7.
The band has launched a fundraising effort for money to travel to Hawaii. At 7:45 p.m., Ed Vezey, of Moore, a survivor of the battleship USS Oklahoma's capsizing, will speak briefly about his experience on the battleship when it was hit by Japanese torpedoes.
Winners of a raffle will be announced at the concert. Raffle tickets for an in-ground sprinkler system can be purchased from band members.
Donations to help students get to Hawaii are being accepted. For more information or to make a donation online with PayPal, go to www.nnhsband.wix.com/pearlharborparade13.
