Pony rides, inflatables and live music are among activities planned for Norman Day 2014, the city’s annual celebration of Independence Day.

The event begins at 4 p.m. Friday at Reaves Park, 2501 Jenkins Ave. A fireworks display is scheduled to begin about 9:45 p.m.

Banana Seat will perform from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by the John Arnold Band from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

The annual celebration will feature a baby crawl, nickel find and a money count jar. A variety of food vendors will be available.

Norman Fire Department officials have reminded residents that setting off fireworks in city limits is illegal.

“Public fireworks displays are the safest and smartest way to enjoy the Fourth of July,” Norman Fire Chief James Fullingim said.

The city has invested about $20,000 in this year’s display.
