Norman felt like home for OU signee Joe Powell

BY DAVID UBBEN, Staff Writer, Published: February 3, 2010

NORMAN — Joe Powell calls himself a playmaker. As a 6-1, 174-pound athlete, he's most likely to make those plays at receiver, after being recruited by Oklahoma receivers coach Jay Norvell and offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson.

America's No. 57 athlete and the No. 82 recruit in Texas, Powell comes to Norman via Skyline in Dallas.

"I went down there, and when I got there, it was like home," Powell told the Dallas Morning News. "It's not a big city, so the focus will be on school and football. But I really had a great time when I visited."

Powell chose to bring his 4.49 40-time to Oklahoma over Texas Tech, Houston, Kansas and Oklahoma State.

He was also one of Oklahoma's earliest recruits, pledging to be a Sooner in March 2009.
