Firefighters extinguished a blaze Thursday that consumed a barn in rural Norman.

A passer-by reported the fire about 9:40 a.m. at 4600 36th Ave. SE, near Post Oak Road.

Deputy Fire Chief Jim Bailey said the barn appeared to have been abandoned.

Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 15 minutes and spent an additional 30 minutes making sure hot spots were out, Bailey said.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause. Bailey said the barn was a total loss, but he had no estimate of its worth.
