NORMAN — Last year my husband procrastinated too long to put up Christmas lights, so we didn’t have any. He made up for it this year. The day after Thanksgiving, he gathered all of his supplies and began hanging.

"I’m going to make our house look like the Griswolds’,” he told me.
Mmm, he wasn’t kidding. By the end of the day, there were lights along the roof line, icicle lights around the edge of the roof, lights around the garden, lights around the yard, lights on every tree and lights around the front door.
"I even put them on a timer,” he told me, proudly. So far, we haven’t blown any fuses.
If it’s taking you a bit longer to get into the holiday spirit, there are several events going on in Norman this weekend that might give you the nudge you need.
Today, the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, 2401 Chautauqua Ave., will host its annual Holiday Happening from 6 to 9 p.m. The event will feature live music, crafts, photos with Santa, a visit from Frosty the Snowman, dinosaurs (of course) and more. The event is free, and those who bring a toy or food donation for Food and Shelter for Friends will be entered in a drawing to win a $50 gift certificate to Excavations, the museum store. I’ll be there with my family and maybe a few friends.
Friday, the Norman Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual holiday celebration at 5:30 p.m. at Andrews Park, 201 W Daws St. The event includes the city’s tree lighting, photos with Santa, hot chocolate, inflatable toys, music and more. After the tree lighting, several business and art galleries will be open from 6 to 10 p.m. for the Norman Gallery Association’s annual Winterfest Art Walk.
Things continue Saturday, when the Campus Corner Merchants Association has its annual Christmas on the Corner from 1 to 6 p.m. Again there will be photos with Santa (he’s a pretty busy guy in Norman this weekend), carriage rides and more. You can read more about it inside today’s MyNorman.
The weather shouldn’t be too bad, so prepare to get into the holiday spirit and spend some time exploring Norman this weekend.
