NORMAN — A Norman man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty in the killing of an 80-year-old man.

A local newspaper reports that Brandon Reed pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree murder. He was charged in the November 2011 killing of Clair Owen Pollard. Authorities say Pollard was beaten, stabbed and suffocated.

Last year, a second defendant pleaded guilty to Pollard's killing and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Prosecutors originally sought the death penalty against 59-year-old Billy Battenfield, but he reached a plea deal before going to trial.

Reed testified at Battenfield's preliminary hearing, but proceedings were cut short after Reed said that he was hallucinating during testimony. In August, a judge found Reed mentally fit to stand trial.
