An Oklahoma City employee was arrested after a neighbor reported a cross on fire in front of a nearby house.

Joshua Scott Brown, 37, of Norman, was arrested Thursday on complaints of arson, endangering a person while committing arson, and possession of a firearm in commission of a felony.

Oklahoma City police were called out to the 16100 block of Glimmer Circle when a neighbor said he saw a man burning a cross in front of house, according to the incident report.

Police found a cross made of wood and fencing wire partially burned. Grass at the base of the cross also had burned.

A tire shine can full of gasoline was at the base of the cross, according to the report.

The neighbor told police he saw a man walk toward the house with a tool. He said he thought it was odd so he went to get his gun and called 911. The arsonist ran away after the neighbor told him to freeze, according to the report.

The homeowner, David Lee Adcock, 48, told police this was the second incident at his home, and he thought Brown could be responsible because he had been disciplined at work.

Oklahoma City and Norman police searched Brown's house and found materials used in the fire, including a freshly cut piece of wood. Police also found a loaded hunting rifle with a scope in the passenger seat of Brown's car, according to the report.

The case is not identified as a hate crime because both the victim and suspect are white.

Brown, who is on administrative leave, has worked for Oklahoma City as a plumbing inspector since August 2009. has disabled the comments for this article.
