Norman North keeping quiet on status of QB David Cornwell's knee injury; Tyler Sipe back at practice

The Norman North football program is keeping news about the extent of quarterback David Cornwell’s right knee injury private for the time being, leaving his status for this week and the rest of the season unknown.

Coach Wade Standley told The Oklahoman Tuesday that he had no updates he could share on the condition of the Alabama commit’s knee injury, suffered late in the first half of last Friday’s 45-42 win at Yukon. Standley said on Saturday that Cornwell had been to see a doctor and was expected to learn the extent of the injury on Monday.

Norman North hosts winless U.S. Grant Thursday night, making it unlikely that the Timberwolves would try to push Cornwell back into action this week. But Norman North has its toughest remaining district game on Oct. 18, when it travels to face Edmond North.

In a bit of good news, Standley said that tight end Tyler Sipe practiced with the team Monday. Sipe suffered a scary neck injury at Yukon.

He remained on the turf for nearly 30 minutes before being strapped to a back board and carted to an ambulance on a stretcher. The precautionary hospital visit showed only a strained neck muscle.
