Several Division I basketball programs around the region have long been pursuing Norman North point guard Trae Young, but the 6-foot-1 sophomore made a national splash Monday morning.

Defending national champion Connecticut offered Young, the son of former Texas Tech player Rayford Young, according to the family.

Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Tulsa have already offered Young, as well as Texas Tech, Baylor, Kansas State, SMU and Creighton.

Young started for Norman North as a freshman and has had a strong summer performance on the AAU circuit.
