Norman North soccer standout Mauro Cichero was named the Gatorade Oklahoma Boys Soccer Player of the Year on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-3, 165-pound senior also won the award last year. Cichero had 16 goals and 10 assists in 15 games entering Tuesday night’s Class 6A semifinal match against Broken Arrow.

Cichero has a 3.26 grade-point average and mentors students learning English as a second language. He signed with SMU.

“Cichero possesses vision and an ability to read the game that makes him stand out from other players his age,” said Gordon Drummond, head coach at crosstown rival Norman High. “He’s a complete soccer player.”
