Norman police search for man in exposure cases
The Norman School District issued an advisory to parents Tuesday that children have reported incidents of a man exposing himself near bus stops on the east side. Police confirmed they are seeking a particular individual for questioning in connection with the incidents.
NORMAN — Police are looking for a man they believe exposed himself to elementary students near bus stops recently on the east side of Norman.
Capt. Tom Easley said investigators are seeking a particular individual for questioning in connection with the incidents.
Investigators would not say how many incidents had occurred or when they happened.
“We don't want to give out details of the case and cause this person to become a runner because he's been alerted,” Easley said.
Norman Public School officials said they learned of the alleged incidents Tuesday and have issued an advisory to parents, asking them to talk to their children about the dangers of strangers approaching them.
The school district's advisory said police were looking for a man with blond hair who is about 6-foot tall who may be driving a newer model, red Chevrolet truck that says “Jim's Mobile Auto” on the side.
School officials also declined to say how many incidents had been reported or when they had occurred.
“The safety and welfare of our students is always our top priority,” the advisory reads. “Please discuss with your child the importance of being aware of his or her surroundings and of avoiding contact with any strangers in any situation outside of school.”
Children should use a “buddy system” at bus stops and while walking to and from school, the advisory continued.
Parents also were advised to talk to their children about calling 911 to report an incident and about the importance of reporting any suspicious behavior to police, parents and/or a teacher.
