Norman School Board members approve personnel changes

The Norman School Board has announced the hiring of new principals and a head boys basketball coach for Norman High School.

School board members have approved the hiring of several principals and named a new head basketball coach for boys at Norman High School.

New appointments include Gayla Mears as principal at Whittier Middle School. She replaces Holly Swanson Nevels, the district's new director of secondary education.

Tiffany Dixon has been hired as principal of Roosevelt Elementary School. Dixon formerly worked in the Mustang School District. She replaces Beth Spears, who is the district's new director of professional development and student assessment.

Norman High School Assistant Principal Paul Tryggestad has been reassigned to head the school district's Dimensions Academy. Tryggestad has more than 14 years administrative experience, including work in the Norman School District as well as in Oklahoma City and Jenks.

Matthew Thornton has been named head boys' basketball coach for Norman High School. He comes from Tecumseh High School, where he served as head basketball coach. He also has coached at Westmoore High School in Moore and Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Mo.

Other appointments include Brittany Venk as assistant principal at Eisenhower Elementary School.
