Norman to host education institute

Educators who use technology in an innovative way will be honored during the Norman conference.

NORMAN — Wes Moore, host of “Beyond Belief” on the Oprah Winfrey Network, will headline the 2013 Innovative Learning Institute on Tuesday at the Embassy Suites Conference Center in Norman.

The institute is sponsored by the University of Oklahoma's K20 Center for Educational and Community Renewal and the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education.

Moore is a youth advocate and best-selling author whose first book, “The Other Wes Moore,” landed on The New York Times and Wall Street Journal best-seller lists. He is committed to helping parents, teachers, mentors and advocates better serve the nation's youths.

The conference will host more than 700 educators and others and feature more than 60 breakout sessions, with topics ranging from common core standards to building professional learning communities and partnering with parents.

One of the highlights will be the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Supporting K20 Innovative Educators award, which recognizes teachers who are using technology to transform teaching and learning. Six regional winners will receive $500 awards. The regional winners are eligible to win the statewide award, which will be announced during lunch. The statewide winner will receive an additional $1,500, plus a $2,500 technology award for the winner's school.
