NORMAN — Norman’s Parks and Recreation Department will host its 18th annual holiday celebration and tree-lighting ceremony beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Andrews Park.

Mayor Cindy Rosenthal will turn on the lights to Norman’s official Christmas tree, with musical performances by the Monroe Elementary School Manyawi choir, the Jackson Elementary School honor choir and the Dazzler Drill Team.

People can bring cameras to take free photos of their children with Santa Claus, Frosty the Snowman and Merry Moose.

The celebration also will feature free hot chocolate, cookies and inflatable toys for children.

A fireworks display will cap off the evening’s entertainment.

Holiday festivities will continue Dec. 12 with the city’s annual Christmas parade. The parade will be from 10 a.m. to noon. The route is on Main Street from Berry Road to Crawford Avenue.

"Let Freedom Ring With the Bells of Christmas” is the theme. Oklahoma National Guard Maj. Gen. Myles Deering is the grand marshal.
