Norman woman faces charges in Old Silk Stocking neighborhood shooting

Virginia Ruth Davis was arrested last week in Norman and charged with assault with a deadly weapon in Cleveland County District Court. She has since been released after posting $10,000 bail.

Davis is accused of shooting Lisa Nardine, 40.

Court documents reveal that Nardine was romantically linked to Davis' husband and that she had gone to the man's residence on the night of the Oct. 9 shooting to ask for money to buy “beer and cigarettes.”

Nardine sent a male friend to ask her boyfriend for money about 9:50 p.m., records show.

“While waiting, the victim saw the defendant (who she has known for one year), approach her pickup, raise a pistol and shoot her through the closed window of the pickup's side door,” a Norman police officer wrote in the affidavit.

Nardine drove a short distance away from the shooting scene before she eventually was assisted by a man who was passing by, records show.

Neighbors who were awake at the time of the shooting — at roughly 9:50 p.m. — say that Nardine sounded her pickup's horn for some time before help arrived.

Second shooting

Less than a month before Nardine was wounded by gunfire, 57-year-old Mary Ellyn Benavidez was shot to death in a home only three blocks away.

The proximity of the shootings and the fact they happened only weeks apart caused many local residents to admit they were growing somewhat fearful of the eclectic old neighborhood in central Norman.

Several local residents refused to be interviewed by The Oklahoman the day Nardine was shot in the neck, saying they were afraid for their safety.
