Norman's Jakcob Dean stepping up as quarterback

— What does a coach do when his former quarterback was a natural-born leader?

He asks for his current quarterback to step up and fill that leadership role.

Norman quarterback Jakcob Dean did just that. Dean watched and learned from former Tigers quarterback Zach Long, who is now a walk-on wide receiver at Oklahoma.

Now, Norman coach Greg Nation said the biggest thing this season is “getting the ball in his hands as much as possible.”

The standout on defense, for Nation, is defensive end and returning starter Cade Parker, because of his ability to read and adapt.

But Nation said he is excited for another year with this team, which went 9-3 last season, including a 6-1 district record.

That excitement starts because of summer workouts, where he said a large amount of his players showed up, and those who didn't received a phone call from another player holding him accountable for not attending a voluntary workout.

“They know what they want to achieve and how they have to focus to achieve those goals,” Nation said.
