NORMAN — Visitors to Lake Thunderbird will notice several improvements, park officials said.

In the park's Clear Bay area, a newly remodeled Turkey Pass campground opened Friday. Improvements, which totaled about $1 million, include new concrete pads, electric wiring and water outlets, assistant park manager Terry Gibson said. The site does not have sewer service, he said.

Gibson said campgrounds offer 44 recreational vehicle sites. The number of sites was reduced to allow for more spacious camping areas, he said.

"The RV pads are big, wide and long,” he said.

Four new pay showers, four tent sites and four handicap accessible pads that can be used either for recreational vehicle or tent camping also were added, Gibson said.

"They've gone in and totally remodeled the area,” he said. "It's clean, the grills are new and there is a lantern holder at every site.”

Gibson said a new concrete bathhouse should be installed in the area by July.

Other improvements include a new nature center in the park's Clear Bay area and new rest rooms at the park's South Dam and Hogcreek camping areas.

Lake Thunderbird State Park is open year round for boating, camping and other activities. For more information, call the park office at 360-3572.
