North Texas (0-0) at Texas (0-0), 7 p.m. CT Saturday (Longhorn Network)

Line: Texas by 25.

Series record: Texas leads 9-0.

WHAT'S AT STAKE

This is coach Charlie Strong's Texas debut after being hired away from Louisville when Mack Brown was pushed out after 16 seasons. Texas is big favorite and shaky win or loss would be huge confidence blow. North Texas is among favorites for Conference USA championship after 9-4 season that included Heart of Dallas Bowl victory. A win over Texas would get the nation's attention.

KEY MATCHUP

Strong faces on old friend in North Texas coach Dan McCarney. They were defensive assistants together at Florida in 2008-2009 and won 2008 national title.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Texas: QB David Ash missed most of last season with concussion symptoms but has been cleared to play. Ash says he's fine and never seriously considered giving up football. A healthy Ash stabilizes the Texas offense. Ash says he'll try to avoid big hits. If he gets hurt again, the drop-off to sophomore Tyrone Swoopes or freshman Jerrod Heard is steep.

North Texas: QB Josh Greer will get first start in front of Texas home crowd of about 100,000. The junior college transfer will be protected by big and experienced offensive line that averages 320 pounds.
