A night of possibly related violence in northeast Oklahoma City left four people in the hospital and a fifth person dead following two drive-by shootings and two other reported shootings early Sunday morning.
“Obviously we're going to investigate,” said Oklahoma City police Lt. Jay Barnett. “It would seem at least possible that those would be related and some of the incidents could have been retaliatory.”
The spree of violence started with a drive-by shooting just after 2 a.m. when a man drove himself to the OU Medical Center with a reported gunshot wound to his leg. The victim told police he had been standing in a driveway in the 3300 block of NE 16th when a vehicle passed by and someone opened fire.
Less than 20 minutes later police found a victim in his car who was attempting to drive himself to the hospital. The man said he had been shot in the back, arm and leg. Police think the shooting occurred in the 1600 block of NE 14th Street.
“The victims in that situation were not too cooperative, and we probably would not have found the scene if the officer had not recognized it as a known drug house,” Barnett said. “The suspect in that situation was likely known to the victims and appears to have been on foot.”
Shortly after that a woman drove herself to the OU Medical Center with a gunshot wound to her back. She told police she had been in an altercation at a club at 118 NE 37th Street. When she drove away, she was followed and someone opened fire on her vehicle on NE 23rd and Jordan Ave.
The night culminated at 5 a.m. with reports of shots fired at the same club at 118 NE 37th Street.
Police found one person in the street who died later at the hospital and a third person who said he had been shot in the leg.
Barnett said they can't release information about suspects in the crimes, or whether anyone has been arrested in the multiple shootings that occurred Sunday morning.
