Switzer to be guest analyst
Fox Sports plans to use former OU coach Barry Switzer as a guest analyst for its Fiesta Bowl coverage Wednesday night. Switzer will join Fox's regular BCS crew of host Chris Rose and analyst Jimmy Johnson for pregame, halftime and postgame coverage. Switzer and Johnson also team up for a weekly "Grumpy Old Coaches” segment on Fox's "NFL Sunday” pregame show. Fox plans to use other guest analysts for its BCS coverage, including former Georgia quarterback Fran Tarkenton for the Sugar Bowl, former Kansas running back John Riggins for the Orange Bowl and Florida coach Urban Meyer and former Ohio State running back Eddie George for the BCS national championship game.
•Fiesta Bowl preview on FSN:
FSN Southwest (Cox 37) will air a Fiesta Bowl special at 2 p.m. Sunday. The 30-minute show includes a profile on junior linebacker Curtis Lofton, whom Stoops calls the biggest playmaker and most consistent linebacker he's coached at OU. Switzer also talks about last year's wild ending that saw Boise State stun OU in overtime.
•NBC to air outdoor hockey game:
If you're tired of football Jan. 1, you can watch the NHL Winter Classic between the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins, the first U.S. outdoor game in NHL history, at noon from Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo on KFOR-4. Bob Costas will host NBC's coverage with Mike "Doc” Emrick, Eddie Olczyk, Mike Milburty and Darren Pang. "With 70,000 people in Buffalo on New Year's Day, there's certainly going to be a rollicking atmosphere there,” Costas said. "You aren't going to need to know the standings from top to bottom to enjoy this game. It's an event.”
