SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Notre Dame nose guard Louis Nix III's younger brother gave a class presentation about his brother being the quarterback for the Fighting Irish. Nix thinks coach Brian Kelly should give him a shot at being quarterback on goal-line situations.
For now, though, Kelly is depending on the 6-3, 326-pound lineman to be a key player in goal-line situations when the Irish are on defense, like in the overtime win against Stanford. He also forced a key fumble against Michigan.
Nix is sixth in tackles on an Irish squad ranked 11th in the nation in defense. He held a contest on Facebook earlier this year to come up with the nickname "Irish Chocolate," saying all great players have nicknames.
The fourth-ranked Irish (8-0) play Pittsburgh (4-4) on Saturday.
