HARRISON, Ark. -- The Harrison Convention & Visitors Bureau, in partnership with the North Arkansas Partnership for Health Education (NAPHE), Healthy Kids Healthy Ozarks program, announces that November will once again be recognized as “Hike the Buffalo” month.
The hikes will take place each Saturday in November. A different hike will be featured each week with a leader taking you to each location and hiking with you throughout the day.
“When you live in Harrison, Arkansas, you understand how fortunate we are to live so close to the Buffalo National River and how easy it is to access the many trails," said Terry Cook, Harrison Convention & Visitors Bureau executive director.
"With that said, we want to encourage our residents as well as share with visitors to the area how easy it is to access great hiking trails in our backyard. November is the perfect month to feature outdoor activities as the temperatures are ideal for hiking and the first frost has already happened so the insects are no longer abundant.”
He added: “This year, in partnership with the Healthy Kids Healthy Ozarks program we have recruited a group of community leaders to 'Hike the Buffalo' in November.”
Guided hikes for 2012 include:
* Nov. 3 -- Buffalo River Trail. Guided by Cindy Miller.
* Nov. 10 -- Hawks Bill Crag Trail. Guided by Rick Hinterthuer.
* Nov. 17 -- Lost Valley Trail. Guided by Cindy Miller.
* Nov. 24 -- Steel Creek Trail. Guided by Howard Kuff.
The hikes will start each morning on the dates above at 8 and the departure point will be the 1929 Hotel Seville in downtown Harrison. Hikers will meet in the lobby of the hotel, carpool to the trailhead and be led by community leaders.
