Is Romo Staubach or Hogeboom?
Quarterback controversies are nothing new to the Dallas Cowboys. Drew Bledsoe-Tony Romo is nothing compared to Craig Morton-Roger Staubach and Danny White-Gary Hogeboom.

Staubach eventually beat out Morton and became a Hall of Famer. Hogeboom beat out White and soon enough lost the job back to White.
Which will Romo be? Too early to tell.
Hogeboom relieved an injured White midway through the 1982 NFC title game against Washington and played very well in defeat. By 1984, Dallas fans clamored for Hogeboom to replace White, and so he did at season's start.
Hogeboom struggled, White played well in relief and with Dallas at 4-3 and trailing New Orleans on Oct. 28, White led a comeback and regained the starting job.
In 1985, White led the Cowboys back to the playoffs, an Hogeboom was traded.
Is Romo another Staubach or another Hogeboom? Staubach was a Heisman winner. Hogeboom was a fifth-round pick out of Central Michigan. Romo was a rookie free agent out of Eastern Illinois.
Buyer beware.
