Now playing point guard: Jeremy Lamb

Something interesting happened Sunday night while the Thunder was getting smacking the Utah Jazz.

Jeremy Lamb slid over late in the second half and played point guard, orchestrating the offense and making plays for himself and others with the ball in his hands.

He played all 12 minutes in the fourth quarter without Russell Westbrook (night off), Reggie Jackson or Derek Fisher. It was his show. And he ran it fairly well. Lamb scored nine points on 4-for-7 shooting in the final frame and had two assists, two turnovers and a steal.

You can count Thunder coach Scott Brooks among those who were impressed.

“Last night, I saw something that I liked,” Brooks said. “Normally we wouldn’t have put him in that situation but we wanted to give Fish some time off. But I like what he did.”

We first saw Lamb’s ability to run a team in summer league this year. He had the ball in his hands a ton and was a pleasant surprise in the pick and roll. But on Monday, Brooks was non-committal about whether it’s a look Lamb will continue to get in the regular season.

“I think going forward, I don’t know if he will play the point,” Brooks said. “But I can see him, and he has been the last few games, showing a higher comfort level handling the ball and making decisions for us in the halfcourt. But I can see him going forward getting more opportunities there.”

Stay tuned.
