One Oklahoma City family's pursuit of planting and growing trees for large landscape companies has now been expanded into a retail operation selling flowers, shrubs, trees and gardening supplies to the public.

Foster's Nursery and Tree Farm opens today at 7600 SW 119. The new nursery and garden center fronts a 160-acre site where the family-owned tree farm was started in 1993.
The nursery features five greenhouses filled with trees, shrubs, annuals and perennials, mulches, growth and pest control chemicals and traditional gardening tools and accessories, owner Ryan Foster said.
Nursery trees are from the 3,000-tree farm, where 30 different types are grown for out-of-state clients, he said.
"We have more than 50 years of experience between the four employees,” Foster said. "We believe our quality is better.”
"We have a big supply of shrubs, from small to large, that can't be found at other big-box stores,” he said. The nursery also has a selection of harder-to-find trees with 2-inch to 5-inch trunk diameters, such as pecan trees with 3-inch trunks.
Foster's Nursery and Tree Farm also sells herbs and a selection of vegetable plants including tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash and eggplant. Gardeners looking for decorative items can find hanging baskets, wind chimes, outdoor benches, bird feeders and houses.
Nursery hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 745-3500.
