NEW YORK (AP) — New Yorkers will gather at the 9/11 memorial for Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve.

The Rev. Brian Jordan tells WCBS-AM (http://cbsloc.al/u2oFap ) that the tradition that began after the Sept. 11 terror attacks in 2001 will go on this year. Victims' families and recovery workers have gathered at the World Trade Center site every year on Christmas Eve.

The Roman Catholic priest says he was urged to celebrate Mass again this year because the 9/11 museum is still under construction. The memorial opened last year.

Jordan says this will be the final midnight gathering at the site. Special prayers will be said for the victims of Superstorm Sandy and for the people who died in the school massacre in Newtown, Conn.
