The Clinton administration balanced the budget, created a surplus and a thriving economy. During the George W. Bush administration, the debt limit was raised five times, in part to support two unfunded wars. This created an enormous deficit followed by a recession. Thousands of companies were forced to close; millions lost their jobs. The Obama administration inherited a struggling economy and huge debt. The administration has made progress, but it will require more time and work to return the economy to a healthy state.
