NAIA Qualifying Competition

The OCU cheer and pom teams will compete in the NAIA Qualifying Competition at 6 p.m. Feb. 2.

OCU all-girl cheer will compete against Southwestern Christian University and St. Gregory’s University. Large co-ed cheer will compete against Texas Wesleyan and Wayland Baptist. Pom will compete in large dance. Other divisions are small co-ed cheer and small dance.

Admission to watch the competition is $5.

The National Dance Association will give intensive master classes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 3. Instructors include Keith Green, Meldon Steele and Ally Traylor.

Green has taught hip hop master classes around the country for 14 years and choreographed for MTV’s “My Super Sweet Sixteen” show, the NFL Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and opening performances for Drake, Ice Cube, Ludacris, Young Joc and many others.

Steele is the head choreographer of Legends in Concert, the second-longest running show on the Las Vegas strip. He has also done shows in Spain; Hawaii; Atlantic City, N.J.; Branson, Mo.; and other locations.

Traylor recently completed five seasons with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. She performed live with Enrique Iglesias (featuring Pitbul), Keith Urban, Daughtry, the Jonas Brothers and Kelly Clarkson.

The instructors will teach a hip hop master class, NFL-style jazz, technique and jazz funk.  Registration for the master classes is $50; those who attend the NCA/NDA Oklahoma Classic downtown Feb. 2 can take the classes for $40. Registration will begin at 9 a.m.
