Bovada has set some interesting college football odds. For instance:
Texas football coach:
Charlie Strong 2/1: Seems way too high. Way too high. I don’t know that anyone should be closer than 5/1.
Art Briles 9/2: Wonder if Texas is just waiting for some coach’s bowl to be over? A bunch of guys on this list still have a bowl game to coach.
James Franklin 5/1: My personal favorite. But will Vanderbilt’s sexual assault scandal hurt Franklin’s candidacy?
Mike Gundy 7/1: Las Vegas likes Gundy for the job.
Bill O’Brien 15/2: Seems like O’Brien is more likely headed for the NFL.
Chip Kelly 10/1: Shouldn’t this be more like 100/1? I mean, Kelly is still under NCAA penalty, if he wants to coach in college. And besides, he’s got a pretty good job. He’s about to win the NFL’s most tradition-rich division.
David Shaw 10/1: I’d say Shaw is Texas’ top choice, but Shaw doesn’t seem likely to go to another school.
Jim Mora Jr. 10/1: Keep your eye on this one. Could come into play.
Jimbo Fisher 15/1: I wouldn’t leave Florida State for Texas. The Seminoles are in much better shape to win big over the next few years.
Jim Harbaugh 20/1: You could understand a guy leaving a bad NFL job for Texas. But I can’t see leaving a good NFL job for Texas. And the 49ers gig is a good NFL job.
Mike Tomlin 20/1: I’d say it’s more like 2,000/1.
Conference bowl wins, over/under
ACC: 41/2. Seems way low. The ACC has 11 bowl teams. One is against the Mid-American Conference (Pitt beat Bowling Green), one against Conference USA (Maryland vs. Marshall) and two against the American Conference (Miami vs. Louisville, North Carolina vs. Cincinnati).
Big 12: 21/2. Seems high. The Big 12 has six bowl teams. OU against Alabama, Texas against Oregon and Texas Tech against Arizona State are big underdogs. That means the Big 12 better win the tossups (OSU-Missouri, Kansas State-Michigan).
Big Ten: 21/2. Seems about right. The Big Ten has seven bowl teams, Nebraska against Georgia and Iowa against LSU are underdogs, but the Big Ten has a decent chance in the others.
Pac-12: 6. The Pac-12 has nine bowl teams. It’s already gone 2-1. So how will it fare? Oregon against Texas and Arizona State against Tech are big favorites. So should be UCLA against Virginia Tech and Arizona against Boston College. I think the Pac-12 gets to seven.
SEC: 61/2. The SEC has 10 teams. If the SEC goes 6-4, it’s a massive disappointment.
Most points scored in a bowl game by one team, over under: 621/2. I’m going to say under. But Baylor is capable of going for 80.
Total bowl games that go to overtime: 11/2. Bet on this, and you’ve got a problem.
Largest margin of victory in a bowl game: 301/2. I’d take the over. Someone will get beat 49-14.
Most passing yards in a bowl game: 5241/2. I’d have to say under. That’s a lot of yards.
Most rushing yards in a bowl game: 2491/2. Individual? Under. Team? Over.
Most receiving yards in a bowl game: 2001/2. Over.
