My heart was heavy when I learned of the passing of Odilia Dank. I'm proud that she and David have been my friends. I've known Odilia for decades and can describe her in just a few words — an admirable lady! Most knew Odilia because she served in the state House of Representatives for 12 years and established many remarkable achievements, some never before accomplished by others. However, to measure her by her legislative accomplishments would sell her short.
Odilia was an educator in more ways than just teaching a class or serving as a high school counselor, which she did for many years. She not only taught subjects, but she taught young people how to live their lives in a manner that would serve the greater good. She was extremely intelligent, admirably compassionate and remarkably energized in all that she did. Odilia was an inspiration to me and to all those who knew her, both within and outside of her public service.
I'll miss her warm greetings, her words of encouragement, her undying optimism and, in the end, her fighting spirit. She was a winner, and because of her gentle leadership, other winners are now in our society.
