• Commissioners approved a one-year lease between the Norman Youth Soccer Association and Cleveland County Fair Board for use of a field near the fairgrounds north of Robinson Street for soccer practice. The soccer association approached the fair board about using the property because of heavy demand for practice space, and the commissioners gave final approval.

• They also approved three projects for the County Improvements for Roads and Bridges five-year plan: a six-mile reconstruction of Etowah Road between 48th and 120th avenues, a five-mile improvement of Slaughterville Road, and another five-mile project near Needmore along 156th Avenue between Cedar Lane and Banner Road. Etowah Road is going through an environmental study now; the others are in the planning stages.

Carla Hale, coordinator of the Cleveland County Community Service Program, told Cleveland County commissioners Monday that people sentenced to community service in the past year spruced up neglected cemeteries, as well as public and nonprofit buildings and property.

Commissioner Rusty Sullivan said some of the cemetery work took place in his southern county district.

Hale asked commissioners to suggest ways to get more organizations to take advantage of community service labor, and for judges to see community service as a viable option in more court cases.

"We want to have more projects across the board, not just geographically, but also with the type of work and the organizations we can serve,” she told commissioners.
