Oft-injured Ryan Reynolds back on the field with Sooners

Oklahoma’s opening football practice of the preseason came and went Thursday with some good, and some not-so good, according to coach Bob Stoops.

But one of the many bright spots was the return to the field of senior linebacker Ryan Reynolds, who wore only a brace in his first practice back since suffering a third major knee injury midway through last season.

"He looked good,” Stoops said later Thursday night during the OU Caravan at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.

"You can tell he’s had a good summer. "He looks great, he ran well. He did everything in practice today.”

In 2008, Reynolds tore his ACL in the third quarter against Texas, after producing what had been — up until the injury — an all-conference caliber season at middle linebacker.

Reynolds’ career at OU has been riddled with injury.

In 2006, he missed the entire year after tearing knee ligaments during an offseason 7-on-7 drill.

In 2007, Reynolds severed the lateral collateral ligament in his other knee during spring practice, though he recovered in time for the fall season, which was also hampered by a neck injury.

But for 5 1/2 games last season, Reynolds seemed to have finally moved past the injuries after enjoying an offseason of working on speed and strength instead of spending all his time rehabbing his knees.
