COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio's Department of Transportation is warning about drunk drivers as many celebrate the final days of summer over the holiday weekend.

The agency says drinking and driving led to the deaths of five people in traffic accidents during the Labor Day weekend last year. Including those incidents, there were a total of 185 alcohol-related crashes and 107 injuries on Ohio's highways during the holiday weekend in 2012.

Transportation Director Jerry Wray says some of the crashes happened in construction zones, many of which will begin wrapping up in late September. Work will continue this winter on the Cleveland Innerbelt and Columbus crossroads projects.

Some construction works may be suspended over the weekend, but drivers still might encounter many permanent work zone restrictions.
