Feeder steers under 800 lbs steady to $2 lower, over 800 lbs $1-$3 lower. Feeder heifers sold $1-$3 lower. Feeder cattle demand moderate following another week of soft trade on the CME. Steer calves sold steady to $2 higher. Heifer calves sold steady. Several rounds of winter storms brought more moisture to area pastures.

USDA'S CATTLE ON FEED REPORT
Cattle on feed as of Feb. 1, 2013 totaled 11.1 million head, 94 percent of a year ago. Placements of cattle in the feedlots during January totaled 1.88 million head, 102 percent of a year ago. Cattle weighing under 600 lbs. 24 percent of the total placements; 600-700 lbs. 21 percent; 700-800 lbs. 29 percent; and 800 lbs. and up were 26 percent of the total placements. Marketings of fed cattle during the month of January totaled 1.92 million head 106 percent of a year ago.
