Federally Inspected Cattle: 625,000 head up 4 percent from a year ago.

USDA'S CATTLE ON FEED REPORT

Cattle on feed as of Jan. 1 totaled 11.2 million head, 94 percent of a year ago. Placements of cattle in the feedlots during December totaled 1.66 million head, 99 percent of a year ago. Cattle weighing under 600 lbs. 30 percent of the total placements; 600-700 lbs. 25 percent; 700-800 lbs. 23 percent; and 800 lbs. and up were 22 percent of the total placements. Marketings of fed cattle during the month of December totaled 1.75 million head 98 percent of a year ago.
