NORMAN — Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione will be honored as the 2013-14 recipient of Oklahoma City University’s Abe Lemons/Paul Hansen Award for Sports Excellence.
Castiglione will be presented with the award during the OCU Sports Spectacular at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 2 at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.
The award honors an individual who signficantly contributs to the growth of sports in Oklahoma. Last year’s recipient was Oklahoma City Thunder general manager Sam Presti.
Past award winners include Clay Bennett, Barry Switzer, Mick Cornett, Bart Conner, Bill Self and Sherri Coale.
“This event is critical to the success of our athletic department in that we depend on the funds the event raises to support our teams,” said OCU athletic director Jim Abbott. “We look forward to honoring Joe for his outstanding contributions to sports in Oklahoma.”
The OCU Sports Spectacular includes a dinner, entertainment and live and silent auctions. Proceeds benefit OCU’s sports programs and the Paul Hansen Memorial Scholarship and the Abe Lemons Endowed Athletic Scholarship.
