Okarche church celebrates anniversary

Light Your World Church, a nondenominational church in Okarche, plans to celebrate its anniversary on Sunday.

He said he thinks of the church as nondenominational because it is “evangelically driven” and not necessarily focused on a denominational affiliation. The church's part-time staff includes an administrative assistant, executive pastors, youth and college ministers and assistant ministers.

“It's really all about the message that we preach here, which is that we are about lighting up the world,” Ivey said.

During the first year, the church held several outreach events at various times, including Christmas, Easter and a Friends Day in July, Ivey said. He said the church partners with another ministry to feed about 100 needy children each week.

He said the church's immediate plans are to enlarge the building's vestibule, install a playground, basketball goal and parking lot.

Ivey said in addition to a meal and Cargill's sermon, he will give a special message regarding the church's vision for the future at Sunday's anniversary service.
