“Tonight, all we did was chip it in, get first on the loose pucks and make plays from there,” Cornet said. “I think they got a couple penalties because we were probably outworking them like they did to us last night.”

Paajarvi picked up the first of two assists with less than 10 seconds left in the first period when he hit Teemu Hartikainen in the high slot. Hartikainen buried it to send the Barons into the intermission up 2-0.

Arcobello returned the favor to Cornet late in the second period. Arcobello passed from the side of the net to Cornet to put the Barons up by three.

In addition to their improvement in the offensive zone, the Barons also made it easier on goaltender Yann Danis.

“We did a better job of cleaning the front, taking care of rebounds and that definitely made my job easier tonight,” Danis said.

The Barons and Marlies resume the series at 2 p.m. Monday at Toronto's Ricoh Coliseum. The game is being played in the afternoon due to the Victoria Day holiday in Canada.

Cornet doesn't expect a repeat of the blowouts in the first two games.

“It's going to tighten up,” Cornet said. “We have Danis, the MVP goaltender, and Scrivens on the other side is one of the best goalies in the league, too. Of course it'll be tighter.”
