Barons vs. Grand Rapids Griffins

When: 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday

Where: Van Andel Arena, Grand Rapids, Mich.

Radio: KXXY-FM 96.1

Scouting report: The Barons (22-22-7) are one of the American Hockey League's hottest teams, winning six of their last seven games. They'll play the defending Calder Cup champion in Grand Rapids, which needed seven games to eliminate Oklahoma City in last spring's Western Conference finals. The Griffins have maintained a championship pace this season; they're 30-16-5 and first in the Midwest Division. Oklahoma City has been rebuilding throughout the season, although it appears the Barons are ready to contend for a playoff berth. OKC is 11th overall in the Western Conference, six standings points behind Milwaukee for the eighth and final postseason slot. ... Barons forward Mark Arcobello might return for the weekend, which includes another 6 p.m. game Saturday at Grand Rapids and then a 3 p.m. game Sunday at Toronto. Arcobello, who has seven points in three games with the Barons, was required by NHL rule to take time off during the Olympic break since he saw extensive playing time this season with the Edmonton Oilers. ... The Barons will return to the Cox Convention Center at 7 p.m. Feb. 28 vs. Rockford.
