CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Oklahoma City Barons continued to flounder against the Charlotte Checkers.

Justin Shugg scored twice, and goaltender John Muse stopped 31 shots as the Checkers beat Oklahoma City 4-0 Thursday night in an American Hockey League game before 5,916 at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Oklahoma City fell to 0-5 this season against Charlotte, which is one spot ahead of the Barons in the West Division standings. The teams wrap up a two-game series at 6 p.m. Friday in Charlotte.

Greg Nemisz gave Charlotte (20-19-1) all it needed with 7:48 left in the first period with his seventh goal of the season. Shugg followed with his 10th goal just 1:31 later. Brett Sutter and Shugg made it rout with goals in the second period, which also ended the night for Oklahoma City netminder Richard Bachman. He was replaced in the third period by Chet Pickard, who blanked the Checkers on eight saves.

The Barons (16-21-6) were 0 for 7 on the power play.

Oklahoma City winger Ben Eager had a tough night, rolling up 26 penalty minutes. He was given a 10-minute misconduct in the second period for abuse of officials, and then he was ejected late in the third period for a similar infraction.
