The Oklahoma City Barons picked up a point in the standings, but lost 3-2 in a shootout at Charlotte on Saturday night.

Trailing 2-0 in the third period, the Barons (30-27-2-8, 70 points) rallied to tie it and force overtime. Matt Ford scored on the power play at 17:21, assisted by Taylor Fedun and Andrew Miller. Ford has a goal in a franchise-record five straight games.

Then Fedun scored with six seconds left to tie the game. Will Acton won a faceoff, pulling the puck to Fedun, who fired a shot through a screen for the goal.

After a scoreless overtime, the teams went to the shootout. Alex Lavoie was the lone Baron to score in six tries. Matt Marquardt won it for Charlotte by beating Richard Bachman on the stick side.

Bachman stopped 30 shots in the loss. Charlotte goalie John Muse made 32 saves for the Checkers, who are eighth in the AHL’s Western Conference. The top eight teams make the postseason.

The Barons, who are tied with Rochester for ninth and trail Charlotte by three points in the standings with nine games to go, play the Checkers again at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, N.C.
