CLEVELAND, Ohio — Garrett Meurs scored the game-winning goal with 5:18 left in the third period Friday night, and the Lake Erie Monsters beat the Oklahoma City Barons 5-3 in an American Hockey League game at Quicken Loans Arena.

Andrew Agozzino added an empty-netter with two seconds left for insurance as Lake Erie made up for a 6-1 loss Thursday night to Oklahoma City. Tempers continued to boil over Friday in front of 8,770 fans. The game included two fights and 70 penalty minutes. For the two-game series, the teams combined for four brawls and 188 penalty minutes.

Oklahoma City (8-9-2) trailed 2-0 after the first period, but Anton Lander and Brad Hunt tied the game with goals 1:17 apart in the second. Lake Erie and Oklahoma City traded goals — Lander tying the game 3-3 with 11:40 remaining in the game — before Meurs beat Barons goaltender Laurent Brossoit with the go-ahead-for-good score.

Lander finished the two-game set with four goals, and Linus Omark had four assists. Barons enforcer Ben Eager fought once each night and finished with 36 penalty minutes.

The Barons are idle until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, when they play the Texas Stars in Cedar Park.
