OKC Barons: Linus Omark's goal makes 'SportsCenter'

By Mike Baldwin Published: November 13, 2013

Oklahoma City Barons forward Linus Omark slid the puck behind his back, then between his legs and fired a laser past San Antonio goalie Jacob Markstrom.

Omark's latest razzle-dazzle move, a game-winner with 3:10 left in the Barons' 3-2 win on Tuesday at the Cox Convention Center, made ESPN SportsCenter's Top 10 plays.

“I just try to play my game,” Omark said after Wednesday's practice. “Anytime you get two points (for a win) it doesn't matter if it's a pretty goal. I'm never looking for it. It just happens.”

The goal already is the most watched video in the franchise's four-year history. Within 24 hours, Omark's play had more than 75,000 hits, more than double former defenseman Colten Teubert's “Harlem Shake” video (31,150 hits).

“My reaction was ‘Wow,'” said coach Todd Nelson. “(Making SportsCenter) puts Oklahoma City on the map for hockey. Every goal he's scored this year has been a highlight-reel goal. I'm having a lot of fun watching him score (nine) goals.”

Omark, 26, is well known in hockey circles. His flip-it-over-the-goalie shootout game-winner for Team Sweden four years ago is nearing 1 million YouTube hits. He also gained acclaim for a spin-o-rama shootout move in his NHL debut three years ago.

“After that goal the other night, everyone on our bench had huge smiles,” Nelson said. “He's a special player, a creative player. Those type of players don't come through here too often. Enjoy it while he's here.”
